Love this piece, Ursula. This is definitely something I’m going to use this year. Your piece challenges the harmful myth of “civil” debate on controversial topics as teaching gold. Trump’s statement of “good people on both sides” may have been the death knell for that way of thinking, but it still persists. Reminds me of Benjamin Doxtdator’s piece, The Humanity of Our Students Isn’t Up for Debate, earlier this year. Thank you so much for writing and sharing this.
